Frequently asked questions

How do I write an author's name in APA style?

Last name first, then a comma and the initials of the first and middle names: Mary Jane Watson becomes Watson, M. J. In a reference list, every author follows the same pattern.

What about suffixes like Jr. and Sr.?

They go with the last name: John Smith Jr. becomes SMITH JR., John in ABNT. The tool recognizes Jr., Junior, Filho and Neto.

Where do particles like de, da and van go?

In ABNT they come after the first names, in lowercase. In the initials and in Vancouver style they're left out.
