Capacitor code: 104, 103, 473 and more
Find the value of a ceramic or film capacitor from its printed code, such as 104, 103J, 473K or 2A104J, in pF, nF and µF, with tolerance and voltage, or get the code from the value.

Capacitor code: 104, 103, 473 and more: what it is for
Type the code printed on the capacitor, such as 104, 103J, 473K, 4R7 or 2A104J, and see the value in pF, nF and µF, the tolerance given by the letter (F, G, J, K, M and others) and the voltage from the EIA code (1H, 2A, 2E, 2J...). The reading follows the rule of two significant digits and a multiplier in picofarads: 104 is 10 × 10,000 pF, or 100 nF. In reverse, the tool generates the code from the value, and a list shows the most common codes.
The calculations run in your browser, without sending anything to a server. It accepts values with prefixes, such as 4k7, 100n and 10u.
How to use
- Type the code printed on the capacitor.
- See the value, tolerance and voltage.
- Or type the value to find the code.
When to use it
- Identifying capacitors on boards and during repairs.
- Buying the right replacement part.
- Building electronics kits and projects.
Frequently asked questions
What is the value of a 104 capacitor?
100 nF, or 0.1 µF. The first two digits (10) are the value and the third (4) is the number of zeros, in picofarads: 10 followed by four zeros is 100,000 pF, which is 100 nF. The same way, 103 is 10 nF, 102 is 1 nF and 473 is 47 nF.
What does the letter after the numbers mean?
It is the tolerance: F is ±1%, G is ±2%, J is ±5%, K is ±10% and M is ±20%. A 104J, for example, can be anywhere from 95 to 105 nF. On small capacitors, the letters B, C and D mean tolerances in pF (±0.1, ±0.25 and ±0.5 pF).
And the code before the numbers, like 2A?
It is the EIA voltage code, common on film capacitors: 1H is 50 V, 2A is 100 V, 2E is 250 V, 2G is 400 V and 2J is 630 V. So 2A104J is a 100 nF, ±5%, 100 V capacitor. Codes with only two digits, like 47, are read directly in pF, and R marks the decimal point: 4R7 is 4.7 pF.
