Resistor color code
Find a resistor's value from its color bands (4, 5 or 6 bands), with tolerance and temperature coefficient, or find the colors from the value in ohms.

Resistor color code: what it is for
Pick the color of each band and see the resistance, the tolerance and the minimum and maximum values, with a drawing of the resistor. In reverse mode, type a value like 4k7 or 10k and get the colors for 4 and 5-band resistors.
How to use
- Choose the number of bands.
- Select the colors in order.
- Or type the value to see the colors.
When to use it
- Identifying resistors on the workbench.
- Building electronics and Arduino projects.
- Learning the color code.
Frequently asked questions
How do I read resistor bands?
Start with the band closest to one end. On 4-band resistors, the first two are digits, the third is the multiplier and the fourth, usually gold or silver, is the tolerance. On 5-band resistors there are three digits before the multiplier.
What does the gold band mean?
At the end of the resistor, gold means 5% tolerance and silver means 10%. In the multiplier position, gold multiplies by 0.1 and silver by 0.01.
What colors is a 10 kΩ resistor?
Brown, black, orange and the tolerance band: 1, 0 and a multiplier of 1,000.
