Fuel tank range calculator: what it is for
Enter the tank capacity, the average fuel economy and the current fuel level. The calculator shows the range with a full tank and with what is left, how much it costs to top up the tank and, for a trip, how many fuel stops you need while keeping a safety reserve, plus the total fuel and the cost of the trip.
The calculations run in your browser and are an estimate; always check your vehicle manual.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my car's range?
Multiply the tank capacity by the average fuel economy: a 50-liter tank in a car that does 12 km/l goes about 600 km. With half a tank, the range is cut in half.
Why keep a reserve?
Real consumption changes with speed, air conditioning, load and terrain, and gas stations can be far apart on highways. The calculator plans the stops so you reach the station with the reserve you choose, 15% of the tank by default.
Is it bad to drive on reserve?
Often running near empty can pull dirt from the bottom of the tank and reduce cooling of the fuel pump in many cars. It is better to fill up before the low-fuel light comes on.
Is it really free?
