Online graphing calculator (plot functions)
Type the function with x, like 2x + 1 or x^2 - 4. The graph appears right away; move your mouse or finger to read the points.
How to useType f(x), see the graph
Move the mouse over the graph to read the points.
Online graphing calculator (plot functions): what it is for
Type up to four functions of x, with powers (^), implicit multiplication (2x) and functions such as square root, absolute value, sine, cosine, tangent, logarithm and exponential. Adjust the x range and, if you want, the y range.
Move your mouse or finger over the graph to read the points of each function, and download it as PNG or SVG.
How to use
- Type the function with x.
- Adjust the x and y ranges.
- Read the points and download the graph.
When to use it
- Studying linear and quadratic functions.
- Checking homework.
- Graphs for lessons and handouts.
Frequently asked questions
How do I type the function?
Use x as the variable, + - * / for arithmetic and ^ for powers: x^2 - 3x + 2. Multiplication can be implicit (2x, 3(x+1)). Functions: sqrt (square root), abs (absolute value), sin, cos, tan (in radians), ln (natural log), log (base 10) and exp; the constants pi and e work too.
How do I see where the function crosses the x axis?
Move the mouse (or your finger) close to the x axis: the point shows x and y. Where y is 0 is a root. To find it precisely, narrow the x range around that point.
Why does the graph disappear or have gaps?
Because the function does not exist there: the square root of a negative number, the log of zero or a negative number and division by zero have no real value, like 1/x at x = 0. The tangent also jumps. The graph simply does not draw those points.
