Frequently asked questions

How are the initials chosen?

The first letter of the first name and the first letter of the last surname, ignoring small particles such as 'de', 'da' and 'dos'. 'Mary Ann Smith' becomes MS. With a single name, it uses the first two letters, or just the first one if you prefer.

Why is the color always the same for the same name?

The color comes from a calculation made with the letters of the name, so 'Ana Lima' always gets the same shade on any computer. That way people are recognized by color in lists and comments.

What is the SVG for?

SVG is a text file with the avatar drawing: it stays sharp at any size and weighs only a few bytes, great for using directly on a website. PNG is better for uploading as a profile picture in apps.

Is it really free?
