Why is the image saved as PNG?
Because the corners become transparent, and JPG has no transparency. If you prefer JPG, choose a background color for the corners.
How does the radius work?
The radius is a percentage of the shorter side of the image, so the rounding stays proportional on photos of any size. At 50%, a square image becomes a circle.
