What is my sales tax rate?
It is your state rate plus any county and city rate. Combined rates in the US go from 0% (Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon) to over 10% in some cities. Check your receipt or your state revenue department for the exact rate.
How do I take sales tax out of a total?
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. For a $108.25 total at 8.25%, the price before tax is 108.25 ÷ 1.0825 = $100.00, and the tax is $8.25.
Is sales tax charged on everything?
No. Many states exempt groceries, prescription drugs or clothing, and each state has its own list. This calculator applies the rate to the full amount you enter.
