  3. See how much each person pays and round up if you want.

When to use it

  • Check the service charge on a bill.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip in the US?

At sit-down restaurants, 15% to 20% of the pre-tax bill is customary, and 20% or more for great service. For bartenders, $1 to $2 per drink or 15% to 20% of the tab is common. Delivery and takeout tips vary more.

How much do people tip in other countries?

In many European countries service is already included and the tip is just rounding up. In Brazil, a 10% service charge is common and optional. Check the local custom before you travel.

Do I tip on tax?

Many people tip on the amount before tax, which is the traditional rule. Tipping on the total is simpler and a bit more generous; enter the amount you want to tip on.
