Accessibility statement generator (ADA and WCAG): what it is for

Enter your organization, website and contact methods, choose the WCAG version and level you aim for and the honest conformance status, list the known limitations and the measures you take, such as audits, training and testing with assistive technology. The generator writes an accessibility statement in plain language, following the structure recommended by the W3C, with the date of the last review and a promise of a response time.

Link to the statement from the footer of every page. The statement does not make a site accessible by itself; pair it with real testing and fixes.

How to use

  1. Enter the organization and contacts.
  2. Choose the standard, status and measures.
  3. Copy or download the statement.

When to use it

  • Business and store websites.
  • Schools, nonprofits and local governments.
  • Agencies delivering client sites.

Frequently asked questions

Is an accessibility statement required by the ADA?

The ADA doesn't require a statement by name, and courts and the Department of Justice look at whether people with disabilities can actually use the site. A statement still helps: it shows your commitment, gives people a way to get help and report problems, and documents the work you are doing. Some laws, such as the EU Web Accessibility Directive for public bodies, do require one.

What standard should my website follow?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) from the W3C. Level AA is the usual target, and WCAG 2.2 is the current version. The Department of Justice's 2024 rule for state and local governments adopted WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

Should I say my site is fully compliant?

Only if an audit confirmed it. Claiming full conformance when the site has barriers can backfire. Use partially conformant and list the known limitations and when you plan to fix them.
