Frequently asked questions
How long is a dog's pregnancy?
On average 63 days from ovulation, ranging from about 58 to 68 days counted from mating. Since sperm survive a few days, the mating date gives a window, not an exact day.
And a cat's?
About 65 days, with a normal range of 60 to 70 days. Larger litters tend to be born a little earlier.
How is pregnancy confirmed?
The vet can confirm it by ultrasound from 25 to 28 days after mating and count the puppies or kittens by X-ray from about 45 days, when the bones become visible.
