Frequently asked questions
What is the Business Model Canvas?
It is a one page chart, created by Alexander Osterwalder, that describes how a business creates, delivers and captures value, in 9 blocks. It is used to plan a new business, review an existing one and explain the idea to partners and investors.
In what order should I fill it in?
Start with the customers and the value proposition (what you solve for them), then channels, relationships and revenue streams, which make up the right side. Then the left side: activities, resources and partners, and last the cost structure.
Can I use sticky note style items instead of sentences?
Yes, and that is the recommended way: short items, one per line, like a sticky note. The canvas is for seeing the whole model at once and testing changes, not for long texts.
Is it really free?
Yes, 100% free. No sign-up, no subscription and no usage limits. All Tools123 tools are free and run right in your browser.
