Download time calculator: what it is for
Enter the file size and your plan's speed. The calculator converts megabits to megabytes, applies an optional loss for Wi-Fi and the server and shows the estimated time, with a table comparing speeds from 10 Mbps to 1 Gbps. It also works for upload time.
How to use
- Type the file size.
- Enter your internet speed.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't a 100 Mbps plan download 100 MB per second?
Internet speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps), and file size in megabytes (MB). A byte has 8 bits, so 100 Mbps downloads at most 12.5 MB per second.
Why does the download take longer than the calculation?
Wi-Fi, distance from the router, the server the file comes from and other devices using the network all reduce the real speed. The loss option estimates that discount.
