Paint calculator: what it is for

The calculator measures the wall area from the room size, subtracts doors and windows, includes the ceiling if you want and calculates the liters from the number of coats and the paint's coverage.

At the end, it suggests a combination of 18 L cans, 3.6 L gallons or 0.9 L quarts.

How to use

  1. Enter the room measurements.
  2. Say how many doors and windows there are and the coats.
  3. See the liters and which cans to buy.

When to use it

  • Plan a renovation.
  • Buy the right amount without waste.
  • Compare a painter's quote.

Frequently asked questions

How far does paint go?

It depends on the brand and type, and it's written on the can. A regular acrylic paint covers about 10 m² per liter per coat (about 400 sq ft per gallon); cheaper paints cover less.

How many coats should I apply?

Usually two. To cover a dark color with a light one, or a new wall without primer, plan for three.

Is it really free?
