Frequently asked questions
How do I find the food's calories?
Look on the bag for the metabolizable energy, in kcal per kg (or kcal per cup). Premium foods usually have 3,500 to 4,200 kcal/kg; basic ones, 3,000 to 3,500.
How is the amount calculated?
From the resting energy requirement (70 × weight^0.75) multiplied by a factor that depends on the animal's life stage and activity. Then the daily energy is converted into grams using the food's calories.
Can I rely on this number alone?
Use it as a starting point and check your pet's weight every two weeks. Animals with health conditions, pregnant or overweight should have their diet guided by a veterinarian.
