Unit price calculator (price per pound, ounce or liter): what it is for

The calculator compares two or more options of the same product in different sizes, such as 16 oz against 2 lb or 2 L against a 6-pack of 12 fl oz cans. It converts everything to the same base and shows the price per kilo, per liter, per meter or per unit.

The cheapest option is highlighted, along with how much more the others cost in percent and how much you save buying the same quantity.

How to use

  1. Enter the price and quantity of each option.
  2. Choose the unit (g, kg, oz, lb, ml, L, fl oz, m or units).
  3. See which one is the better deal and how much you save.

When to use it

  • Grocery and warehouse club shopping.
  • Comparing buy-more-save-more deals.
  • Choosing between packs of toilet paper, detergent and drinks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which product is the better deal?

Divide the price by the quantity to get the price per unit of measure (per pound, per liter or per item) and compare. The bigger package is not always the cheapest: a sale on the smaller one often turns things around.

Can I compare ounces with pounds, or grams with kilos?

Yes. Choose the unit for each option (g, kg, oz, lb, ml, L, fl oz, m, units) and the tool converts everything to the same base before comparing.

What about toilet paper, which has rolls and length?

Use meters: add up the length of all the rolls in the pack (rolls × meters per roll). That way a pack of 12 rolls of 30 m compares directly with one of 16 rolls of 20 m.
