Frequently asked questions
When does daylight saving time start and end?
Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, in effect since 2007, DST starts at 2:00 a.m. local time on the second Sunday in March, when clocks move forward to 3:00 a.m., and ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday in November, when clocks go back to 1:00 a.m.
Which states don't observe daylight saving time?
Hawaii and most of Arizona stay on standard time all year (the Navajo Nation in Arizona does observe DST). The territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands don't change their clocks either.
Is daylight saving time going to be permanent?
Congress has considered bills to make DST permanent, such as the Sunshine Protection Act. Unless one becomes law, clocks keep changing twice a year under the current rule, and the dates on this page apply. If the law changes, they won't.
