Frequently asked questions

How do you convert military time to standard time?

For hours from 1300 to 2359, subtract 12 and add PM: 1700 is 5:00 PM. From 0100 to 1159, drop the leading zero and add AM: 0930 is 9:30 AM. 1200 is 12:00 PM (noon) and 0000 is 12:00 AM (midnight).

How do you say military time?

Say the hours and minutes as two numbers and add hours: 1700 is seventeen hundred hours, 0930 is zero nine thirty, and 2015 is twenty fifteen. A leading zero is said as zero, or oh in casual use.

Is midnight 0000 or 2400?

Both are used. 0000 is the start of a day and 2400 is the end of the previous day. Most schedules use 0000, and the hour after midnight is 0001 to 0059.
