Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the reorder point?
Reorder point = average daily usage × supplier lead time (in days) + safety stock. When stock reaches that number, it's time to buy.
How much safety stock should I keep?
A simple rule is to cover a few extra days of sales, for supplier delays or demand spikes. Products you can't run out of deserve a bigger buffer.
What is the economic order quantity?
It's the quantity per order that balances the cost of placing orders (shipping, time) and the cost of holding inventory. The formula is √(2 × annual demand × cost per order ÷ annual holding cost per unit).
