Selling price calculator: what it is for

The selling price calculator shows the right price to get the profit you want, already accounting for taxes and the card processor's or platform's fee.

It uses the divisor markup method, which is the correct way to build percentages into the price.

How to use

  1. Enter the product cost.
  2. Set the profit margin, taxes and fees.
  3. See the selling price and how much profit is left.

When to use it

  • Pricing products for a store or handmade goods.
  • Selling on marketplaces with fees.
  • Reviewing prices when costs go up.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is how much of the selling price is profit. Markup is how much you multiply the cost by. A 30% margin isn't the same as adding 30% to the cost.

Why can't I just add the percentage to the cost?

Because taxes and fees are charged on the selling price, not on the cost. Adding 30% to the cost gives a real margin lower than 30%.
