Frequently asked questions
How do I write a transition?
State1 --> State2 : event. [*] marks the start (when it comes before the arrow) and the end (when it comes after). For a name with spaces, declare it first: state "Being packed" as packing, and use packing in the arrows.
What is a state diagram?
It is a drawing of the states something goes through, like an order, a support ticket or a screen, and of the events that lead from one state to another. It helps you not forget cases, such as canceling an order that has already shipped.
Can I group states?
Yes. Use state Name { ... } with the inner transitions inside the braces for a composite state. For a choice, declare state decision <<choice>> and leave it with one arrow for each path.
