Retirement calculator: what it is for

Enter your age, the age you want to stop working, the monthly income you want, what you have already invested and the expected real return. The calculator shows the nest egg needed to live off the returns alone and the monthly contribution to get there.

All values are in today's money, because the math uses the return above inflation.

How to use

  1. Fill in the ages and the income you want.
  2. Enter what you already have and the real return.
  3. See how much to invest each month.

When to use it

  • Plan financial independence.
  • Add to your pension or Social Security.
  • Test age and income scenarios.

Frequently asked questions

How does the calculator find the nest egg I need?

It calculates how much money produces the income you want with real returns alone, without spending the principal. That way the income lasts your whole life and keeps up with inflation.

What is the real rate of return?

It is the return above inflation. If an investment earns 10% a year and inflation is 4%, the real gain is close to 5.8%. Using the real rate keeps every value in today's money.

What about Social Security?

If you will receive a pension or Social Security, enter only the income you need on top of it. The calculator only covers what you will need to invest on your own.

Is it really free?
