Frequently asked questions

How is PTO accrual calculated?

Divide your yearly PTO hours by the number of pay periods. With 15 days (120 hours) a year paid every two weeks, you earn 120 ÷ 26 = 4.62 hours per paycheck.

What is accrual per hour worked?

Some employers, and many state sick leave laws, give a set amount per hour worked, such as 1 hour for every 30 hours. Divide yearly PTO hours by the hours worked in a year (2,080 for full time).

What is an accrual cap?

A maximum balance. Once you reach it you stop earning PTO until you use some. Some states, like California, do not allow use-it-or-lose-it policies but do allow caps.
